Our Story

Family recipes, and the people who bake them.

Every cake, bun, and cookie here starts with a family recipe carried over from southern Sweden. Here is who bakes them.

Founder & Baker

I grew up on a farm about six miles north of Trelleborg in southern Sweden. For generations, my family cooked and baked everything from scratch, creating one delicious meal and pastry at a time.

When I was 13, my best friend and I started selling our baked goods at the town square to earn some extra summer money. We had a blast, not only did we make good money, but we got to know the other vendors and what seemed like the entire elderly population of Trelleborg, who stopped by for homemade buns, cakes, cookies, and their daily fika.

Sharing Sweden’s beloved fika culture with Hendersonville and the Greater Nashville area.

More than 30 years later, I found my way back to baking. In late 2020, a neighbor suggested I start selling my homemade baked goods, and before I knew it, A Taste of Sweden was born. What began as a simple idea has grown into something I never imagined, and with a little luck, we’ll soon have a café and bakery of our own. Who would’ve thought my family’s recipes would one day become a business?

My favorite part will always be connecting with customers. I love a good chat and sharing Sweden’s beloved fika culture with Hendersonville and the Greater Nashville area. Hearing your stories and knowing our baked goods can bring back cherished memories, or introduce you to a new favorite flavor (cardamom, anyone?) truly warms my heart.

I hope to see you soon!

Love from, Mia

My passion for baking began as a Covid-era hobby and blossomed into a passion for creating delicious treats for family and friends’ birthdays and holidays. Trained as a counselor, I am always looking for ways to exercise my creativity and share that joy with others. I started to notice my anxiety and worries melting away when I was baking. Then I loved seeing my loved ones’ faces light up when they tried what I made.

So when I found Mia and A Taste of Sweden, I knew I had found that same passion for baking. Mia’s story blended heritage, love, and tradition in a way that inspired me to join her. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three-year-old son, crocheting, reading, and drawing.
